Puppets in Beverley Ltd. is looking for a highly motivated and experienced COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER to help us deliver the 10th edition of Beverley Puppet Festival between March - July 2022. 

 

Beverley Puppet Festival has become a firm fixture in the East Yorkshire events calendar and is a key event for puppeteers nationally and internationally. The public event will span 15th - 17th July 2022 and will include a programme of indoor and outdoor theatre performances for adults, children and families, workshops, networking events and community engagement sessions. The festival is made possible through funders such as Arts Council England and is run by non for profit organisation Puppets in Beverley Ltd.

Communications Manager - Job Description

Project: Beverley Puppet Festival 2022


Freelance employment period: March 2022 - July 2022 (16 days within this period)

 

Public festival dates: 15th - 17th July 2022 in Beverley, East Yorkshire

​

Dates / Work distribution:

  • 5 monthly press releases & their delivery (including organising any interviews) between March 2022 - July 2022. (10 days)

  • Events listings and newsletter data entry between April 2022 - May 2022 (3 days)

  • Capturing the festival on social media and acting as Press Contact between 15th - 17th July 2022. This period is not flexible and will need to take place in Beverley, East Yorkshire. (3 days)

Location: Most of the preparation work can be done remotely but proximity to East Yorkshire is preferred (although not essential).
 

Fee: £2,000 (16 days @ £125 per day)

​

Key roles: Press / media / PR management including press releases, some social media management, website listings

​

Deadline: Sunday 20th February 2022, midnight

​

The Communications Manager will be supported by the Co-Artistic Directors to fulfil their role but our small team requires everyone to use initiative and take ownership of their responsibilities for the festival to be a success.

PRESS COORDINATION
Beverley Puppet Festival has a longstanding press portfolio, which includes local, regional and national coverage. We are keen to increase our press coverage during 2022.
   

  • Writing 5 monthly press releases between March - July 2022 with unique angles and distributing to press contacts locally, regionally and nationally  

  • Seeking quotes and images from team members and programmed artists to inform press releases

  • Updating our press database and keeping track of correspondence with press partners during the project

  • Seeking press and media interviews for the Co-Artistic Directors, including radio and TV outlets 

 

SOCIAL MEDIA & OTHER MARKETING 

Beverley Puppet Festival has built up a loyal following on social media platforms in the past few years. We also understand that audiences hear about our festival from many different sources.
 

  • Capturing the event during the festival weekend (15th - 17th July 2022). This will include posts and stories on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Please note that the Communications Manager is not expected to manage our social media platforms outside of this time bracket.

  • Entering the festival event details on listings and tourism websites and updating our listings database with up to date information

  • Acting as the Press Contact on site during the festival weekend
     

DESIRABLE SKILLS 

  • Experience working within the arts / events / charity sector

  • Experience working within press, PR and media

  • Good writing / journalism skills and knowledge to construct press releases

  • Contacts within the press and media which can be utilised for the project  

  • Experience using smartphones and social media platforms to market events

  • A ‘can do’ attitude 

  • A knowledge of the East Yorkshire region
