Since 2005, Beverley Puppet Festival has welcomed thousands of audience members to experience the transformative, unique and inclusive world of puppetry.  Giant, fantastical creatures roam Beverley’s historic streets. Tiny, magical worlds are revealed to unsuspecting audiences in the Friary Gardens. The best of UK and European puppet theatre is brought to venues throughout the town for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy.

The festival welcomes over 10,000 visitors and needs people like you to keep festival goers in high spirits and help with the practicalities of delivering this award-winning event.

You may be looking to gain work experience, meet new friends or are seeking a creative outlet - Beverley Puppet Festival can offer all of these things and more. We need volunteers to help with welcoming and managing audiences, administration, marketing distribution, venue management, artist liaison or technical support and generally helping out to deliver our ambitious festival.

Volunteer Roles

Stewards (Indoor and Outdoor)

are the friendly face of the festival and make sure that every visitor has  the best experience possible.  They make up the vast majority of our volunteers.

Indoor Stewards work in small teams and duties under the supervision of a venue manager.  Duties include welcoming visitors, checking tickets, helping public in and out of venues,  signposting to other areas of the festival, responding to customer enquiries, collecting evaluation forms and feedback.

Outdoor stewards work in pairs and accompany our amazing street performers around the town, distribute leaflets, signpost public to other festival events and collect donations, a vital part of our funding.  Perfect for anyone who likes being on their feet, engaging with the public and seeing first-hand how the festival lights up the streets of the town.

Box Office volunteers

ensure ticket sales are run as smoothly as possible and work in venue teams alongside indoor stewards.  They are responsible for liaising with the box office manager on online ticket sales and guest passes, selling tickets at the door, recording ticket sales and cash takings.  They also liaise with stewards for volunteer pass entry.

Ideal for anyone with box office or sales/cash handling experience.

Artist Liaison Volunteers

Make sure our performers’ needs are well cared for.  From signposting to accommodation, meals and venues to making sure they have all they need to put on an incredible performance to our audiences. Perfect for anyone who excels in customer service, knows the town well and is a dab hand at troubleshooting.

Technical Support Volunteers

Support our Technical Manager with all the technical needs of the festival; sound, lighting, staging, equipment etc. Ideal for volunteers who have experience in  theatre/venue technical support.

General Support Volunteers

Lend their hands to any odd need that arises during the festival. It could involve acting as a runner between venues, filling in for another volunteer who is running late, going out on an errand, leafleting or creating/putting up new signs etc.  A varied role for all rounders.
