The Moving Parts Scratch Space, run by the producers of Newcastle Puppetry Festival, is a unique pop-up venue aimed at festivals and events where performance and development opportunities are offered to artists specialising in visual theatre. Spanning object theatre, walkabout, micro-cinema, sensory theatre and table-top puppetry, five British companies have been selected through application to present work over the festival weekend in and around the Indigo Moon Theatre Tent at The Friary Festival Hub. Come down and experience the fresh face of contemporary puppetry being made in 2018!

In a dangerous world what is shelter? Where can you go to feel safe and secure? When fear lurks behind every corner where can you find peace? Experience the lives of a cardboard man and his friend Mouse as they try to orientate the world around them. A darkly moving look into the raw world of homelessness in today's society.

Janet is a newly co-devised theatre show mixing kitchen table drama with B-movie horror. The show follows the life of a young woman - Janet - from messy conception to tragic-comic end as she tries to abscond from her destiny - the oven - and follow her dreams against all odds.

Laura Mathews always thought she should be able to fly, so she made a little extension of herself that can! Join the Little Sparrow as it explores the Friary Gardens, creating beautiful micro-narratives with those it meets.

Be transported through the microscope and unearth miniature monsters and curious creatures in hidden worlds much closer than you might think. Using sensory, visual storytelling and an original soundtrack, Tatwood Puppets will take you on an unforgettable journey made for both adults and children that questions what it means to be human.
