Have fun watching the activity videos and follow step-by-step instructions of how to make and perform with different puppets

If you make anything after watching an activity video, send us pictures and videos (up to two minutes) to be featured in our audience gallery and on our social media channels.

"THE BLUE TIT" SHADOW PLAY

LEATHERBACK TURTLE PUPPET

Circo Rum Ba Ba will guide you to build a  Leatherback Turtle puppet, the star of their show Plastic Ocean. They will guide you through each step, so you finish with a realistic and stunning puppet. The puppet will be worn on the back of the hand with moving head and front fins to swim effortlessly through your home performances.

CEREAL BOX ZOETROPE

WHAT'S BEHIND THE HILLOCK?

Discover how cut-out characters can hide behind the hill and surprise each other. This two-dimensional artwork made from card consists of cut-out characters on tabs that slot between the foreground hill and the background landscape. The tabs can be moved up and down and side-ways. When you’ve finished playing, it doubles up as a picture to display.

HOMEGROWN THEATRE

ILLUSIONS FROM MOVEMENT

with Stephen Mottram (of Oxford)

Stephen Mottram will show you how the simplest of things can be made magical when they are moved in the right way. Just five points of white against a dark background is all we need to create illusions of little animated human and animal characters which can do all sorts of things. This activity is designed for three people to do together but is still great to watch and learn from if you are a duo or alone.

FLYING BIRD MOBILE

Alison Duddle from A Bird in the Hand Theatre explores the amazing potential in making animated films using just a phone, a free app, a table and chairs and some stuff she found on a little walk outside. Alison isn’t usually an animator, but when you’re stuck at home, and don’t have any of your usual tools, it’s fun to learn something new.

All you’ll need is some A4 paper (preferably green - but you can always add colour to white), some scissors, sellotape and a pen.
